Orchestre National de France will begin a 6 date tour of the United States beginning this Sunday January 24 and continuing on to the end of the month. The brief tour will be the final interactions music director Daniele Gatti has with the orchestra. Their musical director since 2008, Gatti is set to take over as musical director of the Royal Concertgebouw, which calls Amsterdam home.
According to the press release sent out by the orchestra, the tour will have two slightly different programs -
Program 1 (Boston) with the press acclaimed French pianist, Alexandre Tharaud
DEBUSSY: Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune
MOZART: Piano Concerto No.23 in A Major, K.488
TCHAIKOVSKY: Symphony No. 5
Program 2 (Ottawa, New York, Newark, Greenvale and Washington, DC) with the amazing French violinist, Julian Rachlin
DEBUSSY: Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune
SHOSTAKOVITCH: Violin Concerto No.1 in A Minor
TCHAIKOVSKY: Symphony No. 5
Since its creation in 1934, the Orchestre National de France has prided itself on being the musical ambassador of France, touring all over the world and playing to a wide range of people. The orchestra undertook its first tour of America in 1948. Since then, they have toured the US 15 different times.
