UPDATE: Due to inclement weather, all performances and workshops scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 22 have been cancelled. This includes the New York Philharmonic, New York City Ballet, The Metropolitan Opera and Lincoln Center Theater. The Metropolitan Museum of Art as well as The Museum of Modern Art are also closed.
This Saturday, Jan. 22 marks the next installment to the Young People's Concert series hosted by the New York Philharmonic at David Geffen Hall. As an added bonus to the upcoming engagement, the company is offering a free download of John Corigliano's "One Sweet Morning."
The Young People's Concert series is a unique approach to allowing young classical enthusiasts to engage the symphony in a way unlike any other. With an added insight into how the orchestra operates, youths are given the opportunity to explore various topics in classical, this year delving into the various characters and metaphors associated with old and new composers.
This year's series is entitled Once Upon a Time with the subgenre "Myths and Legends" coming as the next installment. As stated before, tomorrow's gala highlights the stories, legends, tales of heroes and villains that are central to great composers and their work.
The concert will be held at David Geffen Hall at 2 pm and is a one-hour show. Details of the engagement can be found on the New York Philharmonic website.
