The Chicago Bulls were blown out by the Golden State Warriors by a final score of 125-94. Despite the blowout loss, point guard Derrick Rose once again showed star talent and it was a great sight for the Bulls and their fans.
Rose has been inconsistent all season long and has dealt with nagging injury problems once again. He has not gotten a break from the injury issues for quite some time and there have been major concerns about whether he still has enough left in the tank to be a leader for the Bulls. His performance against Golden State was huge and hopefully will help propel him back to being an NBA star.
During the 30 minutes that Rose played in the game, he put up huge numbers on the offensive end of the court. He scored 29 points to go along with just two assists and a rebound. The rest of his numbers were not impressive at all, but the point total showed signs of life.
He shot 12-22 from the field overall and knocked down all five of his foul shots as well. Rose missed both of his three-point looks, but seeing him only take two threes was a big step forward.
At just 27 years old, Rose still has plenty of time to get his career back on track if he can stay healthy.
Throughout the 34 regular season games that Rose had played and started in coming into the game against the Warriors, he had put up solid numbers. Rose had averaged 15.0 points, 4.8 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game. Those numbers certainly aren't terrible, but they didn't ooze star talent either.
Seeing him finally break out with a huge game is a great sign for the future. Chicago has seen games where he has gone off before, but hasn't been able to consistently keep that kind of play up.
There is no question that the Bulls would be a championship contender if Rose can get back to the level that he played against the Warriors.
Expect to see him continue playing with confidence, but don't expect a 29-point game each and every night. Rose is still a very dangerous offensive threat, but he isn't the same player that he once was.
Check out the full highlights from the game against the Warriors and enjoy seeing Rose look a bit like his former MVP self.
