Indiana Pacers rookie big man Myles Turner has broken into the NBA slowly but has been picking up his play lately. He continued his impressive play on Tuesday night on the road against the Phoenix Suns.
Turner missed a good chunk of the early season due to a bone chip in his thumb, but has come back strong. He has been one of the top rookies over the past couple of weeks and his confidence is soaring. Indiana couldn't have asked for his play to improve at a better time and it'll be interesting to see what ends up happening throughout the remainder of the season.
Against the Suns last night, Turner showed off yet another impressive side of his game.
He came off the bench behind Ian Mahinmi, but was forced to play 31 minutes after Mahinmi went down with an ankle sprain. Turner scored 15 points to go along with four rebounds and four blocked shots. Those points came on 7-11 shooting overall and he knocked down his only foul shot as well.
Frank Vogel is going to have to continue finding more minutes for Turner over the next couple months. There is no doubt that the rookie is talented enough to earn a starting spot by the end of the year and his play of late is beginning to prove that fact.
At 6-foot-11 and 243 pounds, Turner still possesses the athleticism and skill to dominate opposing defenders. He had averaged 7.4 points and 3.7 rebounds per game heading into the Suns game, while also blocking 1.1 shots per game.
Looking ahead at the coming weeks, the Pacers will need Turner to continue showing off his all-around game.
Expect to see him continue putting up big numbers each and every night and don't be surprised if his minutes continue rising. Mahinmi could very well lose his starting spot at some point in the next month if Turner doesn't slow down.
