Tony nominee Nick Cordero has been tapped to star in the Sara Bareilles musical Waitress when it comes to Broadway in March.
Cordero was nominated for his role in Bullets Over Broadway and is set to play Earl opposite Jessie Mueller's Jenna. Other castmembers are: Thay Floyd, Molly Hager, Aisha Jackson, Ragan Pharris Ryan Vasquez, Drew Gehling, Keala Settle, Dakin Matthews, Eric Anderson, Christopher Fitzgerald and Kimiko Glenn.
Bareilles wrote the songs for the musical about Jenna, a small-town waitress who is unhappily married and facing a decision that could change her life. The musical is based on the 2007 movie by the late Adrienne Shelly movie and will be directed by Tony winner Diane Paulus. The book is by Jessie Nelson.
According to reports:
"Mueller heads the cast as Jenna, a waitress and expert pie maker who is stuck in a small town and a loveless marriage. When a baking contest in a nearby county offers her a chance at escape, Jenna must weigh her commitments against a rare shot at freedom and recognition."
Ms. Bareilles is known for her initial hit "Love Song" which peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. The 35-year-old pop star also released a book, Sounds Like Me, which became a New York Times bestseller.
