Jennifer Nettles & Sara Bareilles ‘Lesbians’: Sugarland Singer and ‘Waitress’ Wrote Musical

Sara Bareilles might not be writing you a love song anytime soon, but she did write something else that might be interesting to you. The Waitress musical composer recently revealed that she worked on another musical before. Bareilles and Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles once worked on a musical together, called Lesbians.

Recently, during a concert at New York City’s City Center, Sara Bareilles opened up to fans that she once tried writing a musical with Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles, called Lesbians, saying: (via Music-News):

"We started writing a musical together called Lesbians! And we wrote five songs. One of them is called Lesbians on Parade, and it was inspired by the Lilith Fair.”

"It was my first attempt at writing a musical and that oddly enough didn’t go so well. It was truly a blessed journey for me."

Bareilles also retold this story during a recent on Sirius XM’s On Broadway.
Nettles has long been a supporter of the LGBT community, and was even rumored to be a lesbian herself as she told Pride Source’s Between the Lines:

"I had such a strong lesbian following, and in the gay community as a whole, I've always had so much support from them. I think a lot of people assumed, too. Whenever they heard a woman with an alto voice playing an acoustic instrument stylistically reminiscent of those wonderful icons you counted, Ani DiFranco and Indigo Girls--and especially with the audience I had in my 20s--I think a lot of people just assumed [that I was lesbian]."
