A petition by certain deluded Star Wars fans requests that Disney bring back George Lucas as the director for 'Star Wars: Episode IX,' and the petition has gained more than a few followers.
In a recent petition on Change.org, a Star Wars fan started a page dedicated to getting George Lucas on as the director for the ninth film in the seris. The request would replace the current director, Colin Trevorrow, with Lucas. The petition states that "George Lucas as director of Episode IX would be the perfect way to end this new trilogy and make an epic farewell between the Father of Star Wars and the whole universe of the galaxy far, far away ...."
As of right now, the petition has a little over 17,000 signatures. Hopefully there won't be too many more.
George Lucas did a great job with the original three films, sparking an interest in a universe far greater than anyone anticipated. The storytelling was excellent, the actors were superb, and the whole feel of the originals lends it the concept of "classic." Then Lucas made the prequels. Jar Jar Binks, a crappy Anakin actor, terrible dialogue and more have given fans more than enough reason to dislike Lucas' more recent work in the Star Wars universe. If George Lucas were to be brought on as director of Star Wars IX, a lot of fans would be worried about what would happen to the movie. According to Screenrant, "There's no denying that the idea of Lucas returning and delivering a rousing conclusion to the sequel trilogy sounds great on-paper, but it's something that will never come into fruition."
Needless to say, Disney's done a good job. Yes, there will be complaints that The Force Awakens is a rip-off of A New Hope, and it really is quite similar, but it sets the stage in a familiar way to take the series in new directions.
