There has been a rumor making the rounds that has every Star Trek fan giddy with joy. According to the mill, a well know Trek star was to be in the upcoming sequel to Star Trek Into Darkness. William Shatner is being named to star in Star Trek Beyond along side of Chris Pine.
Would the real Captain Kirk please stand up? This rumor was hot on the internet every since its inception, but I hate to infor the fans out there that were really pulling for it, but William Shatner will not be in the next Trek movie Star Trek Beyond. There was doubts that this would ever come to fruition, due to the major changes that were being done with the film behind-the-scenes.
Talking with SFX Magazine earlier this week, William Shatner spoke about his possible appearance in the film, and said that the rumor has no truth behind it. Shatner said, "There was never a conversation. It would have been interesting to see what their fertile imaginations could have done with somebody who is twenty years older than when Captain Kirk died [in 1994's Star Trek: Generations] and how they would have explained the difference in appearance. But that never came up. I'm sure they must have thought of it one time or another, but I never had a substantial conversation about replaying the role."
There you are, straight from the horses' mouth. It seems that this rumor was no more than just that. It would have been nice to have two Kirks, past and present, in the same year as Star Trek's fiftieth anniversary, which will occur on September 8th.
Star Trek Beyond is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 22.
