David Ortiz is prepared to welcome new Boston Red Sox pitcher David Price with open arms. Ortiz says there is no feud between the two and even called Price his partner. In the 2013 playoffs, Ortiz hit two home runs off of the then Rays pitcher in the ALDS. On the second one, Ortiz lingered and admired his shot. Needless to Price wasn't very happy about it.
Payback came the very next season and it was Ortiz's turn to become irate. After getting hit by a pitch in the back, Ortiz became irate and had a few choice words for David Price both on and off the field. From the Boston Globe website at the time comes these words from Ortiz's, "He apologized to myself and everything was cool. So first at-bat of the season against me he drilled me? I mean, it's a war. It's on. Next time he hits me he better bring the gloves. I have no respect for him no more."
David Price was non-plussed about it or concerned. He felt he was in the right. From the same Boston Globe article, Price's response was measured, "Nobody's bigger than the game of baseball. You ask pitchers from 10-15-20 years ago. That's normal. Part of the game. He was mad, I get it, You say stupid stuff when you're mad. Been there. I'm sure he probably wishes he didn't say some of the things he said. You can't relate the game we play to a war."
David Ortiz has said this is his last year and David Price is beginning the first year of a 7 yr/$30 million a year. If David Ortiz wants another championship, Mr. Price will play a huge role in attaining it. Bought to us by the site Boston.com, Ortiz accepts Price, "We need pitching and David Price is a great pitcher and has showed that for years. I hope he will help us," Ortiz told 102.5 FM in Santo Domingo. "It's a marquee pitcher, and that's what we need."
