Carrie Fisher & Mark Hamill Too Fat for ‘Star Wars 7” Disney Asked Luke & Leia to Lose Weight?

It is hard to imagine them making a new Star Wars movie with the three biggest stars of the original trilogy. Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) are a must if you want to continue the saga. However, Disney had one caveat for Fisher and Hamill if they wanted back in. A proviso that the actors lose weight was put in place, with nutritionist reportedly hired to aid them. Now, Carrie Fisher is opening up about being asked to shed some pounds as well as the entertainment industry's obsession with weight.

In the January 2016 issue of Good Housekeeping, original Star Wars trilogy star, Carrie Fisher talks about having to lose 35 pounds to reprise her role as Princess (now General) Leia:

“They don’t want to hire all of me -- only about three-quarters! Nothing changes, it’s an appearance-driven thing. I’m in a business where the only thing that matters is weight and appearance. That is so messed up. They might as well say get younger, because that’s how easy it is.”

Fisher went on to critic Hollywood's vainity, adding:

“We treat beauty like an accomplishment and that is insane. Everyone in LA says, ‘Oh you look good,’ and you listen for them to say you’ve lost weight. It’s never ‘How are you?’ or ‘You seem happy!’”

Mark Hamill was reportedly also asked to lose weight to reprise his role as Luke Skywalker.

What do you think about Fisher’s comments? Do you think it was out of line for Disney to ask the actors to get back in shape? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section at the bottom of the page.
