Jimmy Olsen Mehcad Brooks Talks Supergirl Melissa Benoist Attraction and Leaving Superman

Supergirl’s Jimmy Olsen is definitely not your daddy’s Jimmy Olsen. In fact, he is not Jimmy anymore, but James. Mehcad Brooks might not be the scrawny red haired photog that we are used to but he has every bit of the heart that we would expect from Superman’s Pal. In the series James moves from Metropolis to National City to both step out of Superman’s shadow and to lend support to Sups cousin. Recently, Mehcad Brooks opened up about James becoming his own man as well as his attraction to Supergirl (Melissa Benoist)and why it might not be the best idea to hook up with the Woman of Steel.

Recently, Mehcad Brooks spoke with Entertainment Weekly about James leaving the confomfort’s of Metropolis:

“It’s very easy to be in someone’s shadow even if you’re at the top of your game just because they can fly. I wouldn’t say that James is struggling, but he’s looking for a way to find himself and also be his higher self as well.”

Brooks went on discuss James’ attraction to Kara and why acting on it is not the best idea for the time being:

“There’s definitely an attraction there. There’s also a bro code. You’re moving to Metropolis to National City, and Superman is your best friend, you can’t go over there and hit on his cousin. Even if there is an attraction, I’m not sure it’s something he could pursue immediately.”

Romantic or not, James’ assocation with Supergirl is definitely something that is going put him at risk:

“It’s a dangerous position to be in, but he’s been there before. He’s been that for Superman for so long that it’s almost old hat. He’s not really frightened by that. Although, it is exploited a couple different times. Because Kara does care about James, villains will try to use that against her.”

What do you think about Brook’s comments. How about Supergirl’s portrayal of the character as James Olsen instead of Jimmy Olsen? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section at the bottom of the page.

Supergirl airs Monday nights at 8:00 p.m. eastern on CBS.
