EA has announced plans to produce more Star Wars: Battlefront games across multiple platforms, in the aftermath of a very big launch weekend. EA wants to get these sequels out while their contract with Disney is still in effect.
This is big news, but it comes as no surprise. Star Wars: Battlefront was easily considered one of the most anticipated games of Fall 2015. According to Gamespot, EA CFO Blake Jorgenson released the news at the UBS Global Technology Conference this week. Jorgenson said, "Our goal is to make future Battlefront games as well as other style games around the Star Wars franchise, both on mobile as well as console and PC. It's a huge opportunity for us. We get access to all of the historical content as well as all the new content developed. The beauty of the Star Wars franchise is it's almost unlimited in what you can do with it." He went on to specify that EA will not make games that tie in directly to the films, but would rather make games that play in the same Universe.
The Star Wars Universe is a vast world with unlimited possibilities. Any game that would take advantage of the many worlds and scenarios from the films and the books would prosper.
He adds that EA does not intend to make games directly related to the upcoming movies, rather games set in that same universe. Although the game was highly anticipated, it fell flat with the critics, scoring a measly 74/100 on Metacritic. This is not good news for the game. They fell far behind almost every other game this Fall, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (93/100), Destiny: The Taken King (90/100), Fallout 4 (87/100), Rise of the Tomb Raider (86/100), Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection (86/100), Halo 5: Guardians (84/100), Call of Duty: Black Ops III (81/100), Until Dawn (79/100) and Assassin's Creed Syndicate (76/100).

Star Wars: Battlefront appeals to my inner Star Wars fan, by having playable heroes and controllable vehicles from the old trilogy. The problem with the game comes when you get past that. There isn't much left to enjoy. The game plays a lot like Battlefield 2. Where are all of the advanced controls and mechanics that other games in this genre have? There are a ton of unlockables in the games, but nothing released at this point excites me. I am holding out hope that the game will have more to offer with later download-able packs, but right now, the game just has good graphics and fancy gimmicks.
Star Wars: Battlefront looks to pull in close to 13 million copies of game sold by March.
