'Star Wars 7' Does Rey's Parentage Make Her a Skywalker?

Star Wars 7 will continue the Skywalker Saga, but does that mean that Rey is a Skywalker or a Solo? This is a debate that will continue until Rey's last name is discovered. There is much debate as to whose daughter Rey is in Star Wars The Force Awakens.

Fans have two very different ideas. The first one follows a story that is closer to the original Star Wars EU, in which Rey is one of the children of Princess Leia and Han Solo. This is the dominant theory that's generally been accepted. It would provide enough vested interest for Han and Leia to get involved with the plot of the film, and would also motivate Luke to come out of hiding to help his friends.

In an interview with the Costco Connection via The Hollywood Reporter, Lucasfilm President, Kathleen Kennedy, says that the new "Star Wars Saga films focus on the Skywalker family saga. The stories follow a linear narrative that connects to the previous six films. The Force Awakens follows Return of the Jedi and continues that generational story. The Anthology films offer opportunities to explore fresh characters, new story lines and a variety of genres inside the Star Wars universe."

With the new film focusing on continuing the Skywalker story, does this mean that Rey is a Skywalker, and potentially Luke's secret daughter? Leia is a Skywalker as well, but if her and Han Solo ended up married, then she would technically be a Solo, and in turn be both Skywalker and Solo. This directly contradicts earlier reports from Making Star Wars that states that "The site (MSW) was in contact with multiple anonymous sources close to the production (including one from the recent musical scoring sessions), and they all say the same thing. None of the new hero characters are Solos or Skywalkers."

Whether Rey is a Skywalker, a Solo, or neither, Star Wars The Force Awakens is definitely set to be the biggest film of the Fall and should end up being the biggest film of the year. There are already theaters that are selling tickets for it, so get them now, if you can. You don't want to be left out.

Star Wars The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18, 2015.
