This past Thursday night, Pauley Perrette, who plays Abby Sciuto on NCIS, was assaulted by a "psychotic homeless man" outside her home. Here's more on the incident.
In an incident not unlike some that the character Abby Sciuto has encountered on NCIS, actress Pauley Perrette was attacked and beaten in an assault outside her home this past Thursday night. According to Perrette, she was "jumped by a VERY psychotic homeless man." The attacker grabbed Perrette by the arm and struck her multiple times on the face and forehead, repeating his name and threatening to kill her multiple times.
The assailant finally let Perrette go, who called the police and provided a sketch of the attacker. The man was later identified by the sketch and caught by police. "The LAPD arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of felony battery. He is in jail in lieu of $100,000 bail."
Perrette has been a long time civil-rights advocate for a variety of issues. In a recent tweet, "she urged better mental health care, care for the homeless and support for police."
We can certainly hope that something positive comes out of this assault, even if it is only that the assailant is able to get needed treatment if he has a mental illness. And that people start paying attention to those around them who need help. According to Perrette's account, some of which was published on Twitter:
"Some guy walked right past me with a dog that licked my face. He was on his phone, annoyed. Did nothing."
There are many instances in the news where bystanders could have helped someone, but either didn't see or refused to see someone in need of aid.
I hope Pauley Perrette recovers quickly so she can continue helping other people. She's what my friends would call "good people."
