While Seal doesn't seem to regret marrying Heidi Klum the R&B singer didn't enjoy having to renew their vows in a wedding like ceremony every year. According to the latest gossip news updates, the 52-year-old felt his ex-wife forcing them to go back over their wedding vows year after year was a bit silly and ultimately did little to stave off divorce. For her part, the America's Got Talent judge shot down criticisms that she had dealt with her former husband harshly in her recent Redbook interview -- pointing out that she still has nothing but love and respect for the father of her children.
Although Seal has far too much class to ever bad mouth Heidi Klum is public, the popstar recently admitted that he didn't exactly love every single aspect of their 9-year marriage.
During a recent interview with Andy Cohen, Seal explained how he grew tired of their having to have a wedding every single year just to renew their vows (via Huffington Post):
"That was my ex-wife's idea, to be honest.
"It kind of turned into a little bit of a circus, which I wasn't terribly fond of because, by default, I'm quite a private person.
"You're married and you become a team player...you do whatever you can to support your partner's life. I don't know how necessary [renewing our vows] was, but it was cool."
It's seems pretty apparent that Seal doesn't want to say anything that would hurt Klum, even now, but unfortunately the retired supermodel was not as careful choosing her words during her highly publicized Redbook interview (via ABC News):
"[Seal] was never your typical dad...He traveled a lot. The kids knew it was part of his job.
"I'm a mom and a dad at the same time."
Despite seemingly suggesting that Seal was barely involved in raising his children, Klum told People that she never meant the comment to be seen as a slight:
"It is frustrating to me that some other media outlets are taking what was said in the article to suggest that I was aiming to malign my children's father. Because I was not!
"In the article, I say that, as a single parent, 'I'm a mom and a dad at the same time.'
"And that is the case when I'm alone with our kids...and I assume the same rings true when they are with their dad."
In fact, Heidi even went so far as to claim that she applauded Seal's dating new girlfriend, Erica Parker:
"I am very happy for Seal. I have met Erica a bunch of times at my children's birthday parties and she is lovely."
