Live Action 'Little Mermaid' Rumors: Chloe Moretz Starring as Ariel?

The future of the upcoming live action Little Mermaid film has been up in the air after the director left, and sources say Chloe Moretz will star as Ariel. Here are the latest confirmed rumors.

So earlier this year, the original director of the film, Sofia Coppola, left production of the film. Apparently it was due to some sort of issue regarding creative differences. However, "Moretz had been the frontrunner for the role even while Coppola was still attached; some insiders point to Coppola's unwillingness to go with a star like Moretz as her impetus for parting ways with the project."

Anyone who doesn't want Chloe Moretz in a film must be nuts. This actress is an automatic draw for anyone who enjoyed the Kick-Ass series. Moretz is one of just a few actors that I'll watch a movie because they are in it, and I know I'm not the only fan who'll be watching Little Mermaid now that she's been officially cast.

On the other hand, unless Little Mermaid is going the Disney route (as opposed to the actual Hans Christian Anderson tragedy), I may not be seeing the film. "As of right now, it's not known whether there will be differences or similarities between this upcoming retelling and the past versions of the Hans Christian Anderson tale. We also don't know if Moretz will be portraying Ariel or an absolutely new character entirely".

The current writer for the film is Richard Curtis, known for "Love Actually" and "Four Weddings and a Funeral," which have apparently done well with both audiences and critics. Hopefully he will be able to do justice to the story and give Moretz fans another good movie. The movie itself does not yet appear to have a release date, but it probably is a good couple of years in the future as Moretz is currently filming Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising which is due in May 2016.
