Ever since the Hulk flew away in the quinjet during 'Avengers: Age of Ultron', fans have began to speculate whether we would be getting a standalone film anytime soon. Although reports have been dismal, Mark Ruffalo Seems to think that it is still possible.
Where would a potential Hulk movie go? There are so many directions that Marvel could choose to take a stand alone Hulk movie. The fans consensus is that Marvel should develop the storyline, Planet Hulk into the stand alone film. I tend to agree with this idea, but it has one major flaw. This would be a movie without Bruce Banner in it. The Planet Hulk story does not have one bit of Bruce Banner in it. I am not alone in this view, Marvel's Kevin Feige has made previous statements about him having the same stance. He says that, "60 percent of the fun would be seeing Mark Ruffalo leading a Marvel movie - and that's what we would do if we ever went down that road... that's why there are no plans for Planet Hulk anytime soon."
Marvel has many ways to take a Hulk stand alone film, but I think that they might just go with a new story. This would be the best bet, and then they could tailor it the way they would like it. It would still have reflections of other Hulk stories, but would remain a new story.
Mark Ruffalo remains optimistic that we will still see a stand alone Hulk film. He recently told USA Today that, "When I was doing Age of Ultron - doing the Scarlet Witch acid trip scenes - it really took me a long time to figure out what the Hulk would be afraid of. And then I realized, it was Banner. That relationship is what we're all so into, but we've never seen them in the same scene together - you're either one or the other, or somewhere in between. But I always imagined that that could be pretty exciting if we could pull it off."
This is an interesting dynamic, and I agree with Mark, if Marvel could pull it off it would be amazing! He also talked a little bit about Thor: Ragnarok and the dynamic he has with Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth), saying "I don't know what the story is yet, but it'll be (Loki) and Thor, and then I'll be in there here and there. But I don't know any of the particulars quite yet. I've talked to Taika (Waititi, the director) a little bit and I like where it's headed. ... Chris (Hemsworth) and I have a really good time together, we goof off and play around when Tom Hiddleston is around. So it'll be a lot of funny back-and-forth, especially with Taika, he does that really well. It'll have that kind of antagonistic Odd Couple-thing going on."
