Here we go again. Yep, another Jay Cutler article coming to aid the defense of the beleaguered NFL quarterback. Not only does this piece outline why the Chicago Bears should keep him past the 2015 season, but it does so with five reasons supported by almost undeniable, definitive logic. So to all of the haters -- aka misguided Bears fans -- are you ready to see why the QB shouldn't be traded or released at the NFL trade deadline or during the 2016 offseason?
Doesn't matter. This is happening.
5. Cutler Isn't the Guy He Used to Be
This may be the most foreign concept to Cutler haters out there, which is precisely why I begin with it. Most people hate him and don't even know why. They might say the untimely interceptions or whatever, but a lot of people just say they purely don't like the guy.
Want in on a secret?
You don't like him because the media, for the first 5-6 years of his career, didn't like him either. Cutler wasn't all buddy-buddy with the reporters early in his career, and he usually showed a general disdain for the media. He didn't like talking to them; therefore, when something bad happened, he was absolutely demolished in every article by every respected Bears and NFL beat writers out there.
That's why in the past, when Cutler got mad at his totally incompetent offensive linemen -- cough, J'Marcus Webb, cough -- on the field, it made headlines everywhere and the stigma has stuck with him his entire career.
Meanwhile, Tom Brady -- a guy who the media adores -- basically gets praised for screaming at teammates on the sideline when they do incompetent things.
It's also why Smokin' Jay became a thing.
However, in the past few years, we've seen a different Jay Cutler. He hosted his own radio show with Waddle & Silvy on ESPN 1000 and was actually enjoyable to listen to. He made jokes and sounded like your everyday guy. Cutler is even more friendly with the media these days during press conferences and interviews.
Cutler kind of turned the page on that attitude and immaturity that plagued him earlier in his career soon after his marriage to Kristin Cavallari. He became a father shortly after, and it was clear that all of those things in his personal life translated over to his professional one in the best way possible.
