Violence and and vampires (or at least one Irish fanger) will star alongside a not-so-holy reverend in Preacher, coming to AMC sometime in 2016. Here's what to expect in the show.
According to Evan Goldberg (Superbad) "We need to change some stuff but we're not gonna change much, I hope. We're just gonna do a little more of the preamble instead of doing flashbacks and restructure how we dole out the information a little, but we're gonna [do the] same characters, same story, same ending. We're gonna try to stick to Preacher as best we can." Still, even with such a promise, there is more than a little cause for concern. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are heavily involved in the production of Preacher, and considering one of their last comic adaptations, The Green Hornet, was, to put it mildly, not great, one can hope that they are able to do a better job with this series.
On the plus side, Sam Catlin of Breaking Bad fame, will be the executive producer, so at least someone with strong, serious TV show will be helping run things. I certainly hope Preacher does well.
The story of Preacher is quite interesting, and includes a cast of characters including an Irish vampire, a reformed preacher (who may or may not be possessed with the child of an angel and demon, Genesis), and a gunslinger Angel of Death. However, in regards to the show, "There wasn't any mention of the supernatural creature named Genesis that possesses Jesse, nor did we catch sight of the Saint of Killers (think the Angel of Death as a cowboy)."
The first trailer for the show is out, and it certainly demonstrates the hyper-violence the series is known for having. It includes shots of protagonist Jesse Custer in a bar fight, breaking a patron's arm as well as a shot of some really crazy looking flight attendant killing a pilot on a plane by throwing a broken bottle into his chest.
So what do you think of Preacher? Will it do the comic justice, or is it going to be another flop?
