If you've been following 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' rumors, you'll have heard that Marvel still hasn't filled the villain slot for the upcoming film. Here's one person they wanted.
Evidently, "Marvel had actually offered the actor the villain role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 but McConaughey turned it down." Matthew McConaughey has starred in several well-known films, such as The Lincoln Lawyer, Magic Mike, and Interstellar. And the last one is one of my top science-fiction films of all time, in no small part due to the McConaughey's excellent acting. So I'm understandably disappointed that the actor turned down the part.
I'm also curious to see who Marvel decides to go with. The actual villain has not yet been revealed yet. There are some interesting possibilities though. "One of these villains is Thane, the literal son of Thanos. Being the step-brother to Gamora, he would definitely help the focus on "fathers" that James Gunn has claimed the movie will have."
The series is also attempting to avoid a Star Wars style father-son relationship reveal. I suppose that's a good thing since The Force Awakens is coming out shortly.
In addition to searching for a villain, Marvel has revealed that the new addition to the Guardians will be actress Pom Klementieff. While her specific character has yet to be revealed, it "is rumored to be Mantis, the half-German, half-Vietnamese martial artist raised and trained by pacifist alien renegades known as the Kree." Mantis has some telepathic abilities, and I can just imagine the jokes that will arise if Mantis is the upcoming character. Peter Quill will be a ripe target.
So who do you think would be the best choice for a villain in the next Guardians of the Galaxy movie?
