It's been several years since the last Ocean's movie came out, and recent rumors have Sandra Bullock leading an all-female cast in a potential remake. Here are the latest rumors.
A remake featuring an all-female cast has been toyed with since at least late 2014, and it sounds like a draft has already been prepared. I personally would love to see a remake of the film with new actors, and Sandra Bullock would be a great lead. I watched the original black-and-white Ocean's Eleven, and it was a bit disappointing. The 2001 remake was much more satisfying to see.
Evidently, Olivia Milch, "who has become a go-to screenwriter for female-centric projects, has been working on the screenplay for months." Hopefully she will continue doing an excellent job with this screenplay.
"George Clooney, star of the 2001 film and its two sequels, is producing, alongside their director, Steven Soderbergh." After working together on Gravity, one can certainly hope there will be some rapport between Clooney and Bullock. Bullock also "took over a role originally intended for Clooney, in this week's political comedy/drama release, Our Brand is Crisis."
While I certainly hope the movie is a great continuation of the series or even just a remake, the only thing that concerns me is whether or not the concept is due to a desire for balance. In that, I mean a politically correct balancing act of the other Ocean's films. I can think of several actresses who would be great for this type of film, so hopefully the creation of this one will focus on ensuring gooding acting, as opposed to simply filling a film with female actors to meet some sort of political goal.
I hope not. I get tired of watching political/rights/equality issues forcing their way into movies that would otherwise be fun to watch. While it is a possibility, considering that people critically involved with the original remake of Ocean's Eleven are also playing major parts in this new movie, I doubt that it will stray from the concept of the Ocean's films.
And call me what you will, I do enjoy watching beautiful bad-ass women rob people on the big screen. So here's a pint to a new Ocean's movie, and the best of luck to everyone involved.
So what do you think about a new Ocean's Eleven remake? Should they do it? Should they wait? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
