DFS Week 8: Top 3 Tight End Plays for Draftkings and FanDuel

Heading into Week 8 of the NFL slate, as well as daily fantasy sports (DFS) competition for football, the season is already nearly half over. That means there's no time to waste in finding the right player at each position and cashing in while you can. One of the more tricky positions to project each week is the tight end (TE) spot, but I'm here to provide a few options at different price levels to help fill out the roster in any way you see fit, whether it be for DraftKings, FanDuel or any other competing sites.

First, let's start with who to avoid. Steer clear of Gary Barnidge, who is going against the vaunted Arizona Cardinals defense. It's tough for anyone to get anything done against them, and tight ends in particular struggle with them just about every week.

Now that we're past who to avoid, here is the top play at a low, medium or high salary, relative to position.

High Salary: Greg Olsen, Carolina Panthers ($6,500 on DK, $6,400 on FD)

Olsen is clearly the No. 1 option for Cam Newton as he's received 50 targets on the year. Despite hauling in only 27 of them, he's cashed in averaging 16.3 YPC and has scored three TDs. If you want to play to the trend, Olsen has been having a big game every other week. Last week was an okay performance, grabbing three catches for 65 yards on five targets, and figures to have a huge game against the Indianapolis Colts. He's probably the most sure-fire safe play of the week at the position.

Medium Salary: Martellus Bennett, Chicago Bears ($4,900 on DK, $5,700 on FD)

The Bears have a divisional game coming off of the bye week at home against the Minnesota Vikings. Considering how strong the Vikings' corners are, a wise plan of attack for Chicago would be to feed Bennett in the middle of the field. With Bennett struggling the last couple of games, I'm sure he wants to get back at it and make up for it. Expect the Bears to look to the athletic TE often.

Low Salary: Larry Donnell, New York Giants ($3,300 on DK, $5,100 on FD)

Donnell has been a relatively consistent play this year, and while his numbers haven't been staggering in any game, he won't kill you and provide nothing. Factor in that he's playing a weak New Orleans Saints defense that has given up over 50 yards to the opposing team's TEs in each of the last five games, including two contests that saw them go off for over 100 yards and at least one TD. Donnell could easily provide five catches, 60 yards and a TD in this one, allowing you to stack up elsewhere.
