Houston Texans RB Arian Foster Should Consider Retirement After Yet Another Serious Injury

There comes a time in every professional athlete's career where they start thinking about hanging it up. Whether it's because of injury, age, passion or what have you, every player needs to decide if retiring is the right option. In the case of Houston Texans RB Arian Foster, he may want to consider doing so after yet another serious injury.

This man, for whatever reason, simply can't stay on the field. When your injury history is longer than, say, Derrick Rose's, it may be time to call it a career and move on before you make everyday life difficult.

Seriously, this guy has had severe ankle sprains, two torn menisci (plural form of meniscus), torn or pulled hamstrings, heart arrhythmias, a herniated disk in his low back, a torn groin (that came completely off of the bone only about four months ago) and, as officially reported yesterday, now a fully torn Achilles' tendon.

Woah.

Most recently, that Achilles' injury took place on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. It was a non-contact play, as he tore it just coming out of his stance while beginning to run a route late in the fourth quarter.

That's really just not fair. Getting hurt that way after so many injuries might be a sign that your body just isn't holding up, and that's a scary thing, especially for a running back in the NFL who is going to turn 30 before next season officially begins. Obviously, it takes a special kind of person to rehab time and time again, come back in great shape and play at a high level, but eventually, it takes a real toll. How long will it take for Foster to realize that maybe, just maybe, it's not worth it anymore?

Foster isn't just a football player. He's a very intelligent and philosophical person, and I'm sure there are things he'd like to do after football. Even though he's been so great while on the field, perhaps giving up that path for another sooner rather than later would be the right choice now.

Is it time to hang them up? This writer believes so.
