'Total War: Warhammer' Breathes Life into Series

The Total War series makes it's first foray into the world of fantasy with the upcoming April 2016 PC release of Total War: Warhammer, bringing a legendary fantasy world to life.

I've been a big fan of the Total War series ever since I picked up my first copy of Rome: Total War several years ago. The hybrid turn-based/real-time strategy series is one I keep coming back to time and again. They've consistently provided a fascinating look at ancient tactics and strategies, and for me, there's nothing quite like wiping out an army three times my army's size yet taking fewer casualties percentage-wise than my foe. Combat aside, developing civilizations with varying abilities, coping with the skills and traits of my city governors (some of which are rather unpleasant), and keeping everybody from dying of plague/disease are quite fun. I'm also "that guy" who won't hesitate to raze a city and slaughter the inhabitants if they kill one of my heirs. 'Cause you can do that.

There are going to be four factions included with the base game: "the Empire, the Dwarfs, the Vampire Counts and the Greenskins, each with their own unique characters, battlefield units and play style." An additional faction, the Chaos Warriors, will be included for those who prepurchase the RTS game.

I don't know about you, but I haven't enjoyed a good fantasy real-time strategy game since Battle for Middle Earth II. I hope Total War: Warhammer will scratch the itch I've had for years. And if it does, there's even more cause for hope. According to rumor, Sega will be partnering up with Games Workshop for what sounds like multiple Warhammer games. Who knows? Maybe will even get a Total War: Warhammer: 40,000 game out of this.

So what do you think about the upcoming Total War game?
