'X-Men: Legion': Professor X's Insane Son Returns in New TV Series Produced by Noah Hawley

X-Men: Legion is being produced by 21st Century Fox. While dates aren't known yet, we do know one of the main characters. As the name suggests, our dashing protagonist is the schizophrenic son of Professor Xavier, and man, this Legion guy is crazy! Producing the TV series is Noah Hawley.

Okay, as needed with all good super heroes/villains/mutants/TMNT's/etc., here's a little back-story on the story. Legion has a multitude of powers, ranging from telepathy to pyrokinesis to time travel. He's also makes a "psi blade" which is essentially all his powers fused together into a single solid form as a weapon. He lost his sanity after he survived a terrorist attack in Israel as a boy (naturally, it triggered his mutations), killed all the terrorists with his mind, absorbed the terrorist leader's mind into his own and got a shattered psyche, with new personalities getting control of one of the mutant powers. Oh joy. "Diagnosed as schizophrenic, Haller has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he's confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real." Not only is he crazy, he also might not be at the same time. What a delicious paradox!

So with that in mind, Fox has decided to produce this show with Noah Hawley being top dog. Crazy seems to be popular right now, so it must be the perfect time to have another insane villain be turned into a hero. We all know that's what's most likely going to happen. Personally, I think if producer Noah Hawley does it right, this could actually be an interesting show. Here's what he had to say about why he picked Legion.

"What I really like about him is, here's a character who is schizophrenic on some level, a character struggling with mental illness. Is he crazy or does he have these powers? The answer is, kind of both. I'm a big believer that the structure of a story should reflect the content of the story. And so I liked the idea that if you have a character that doesn't know what's real and what's not real, that is also the audience's journey."

I like crazy. I like crazy done right, and this could be a pretty interesting show if they pull it off. If you don't know much about Legion's back-story, here's a link. The actors chosen are going to be critical, and I sincerely hope they don't try to pull off a piece of garbage job and have one actor play all the craziness. They need to spread it around, like any good disease. I'll be keeping my eye on this one to see if it'll actually be worth watching.
