Rumors are re-surfacing claiming that Marvel movie villain, Loki Tom Hiddleston could be heading to the DC/Vertigo universe. Hiddleston has been rumored to co-star with Joseph Gordon Levitt as Morpheus in the upcoming Sandman film. Now Sandman writer and co-creator Neil Gaiman has opened up on Tumblr about the casting rumors.
In a recent post on Tumblr, Gaiman himself confirmed that the casting rumor is a lie, pointing the his original interview with Radio Times, where he said:
“It’s a funny thing with Morpheus. Again, it’s that thing where you look around and think, ‘Yes this person would be a fantastic person’, and then time passes. There was a time Johnny Depp would’ve been a great Morpheus, but now he’s too old and it’s fine. I think the first time I saw Benedict was as Sherlock Holmes, I thought, ‘wow, that’s incredibly Morpheus’. And fans probably thought the same because they immediately started doing fan-art, meshing the two of them up...Then again, Tom Hiddleston is still out there! And the truth is, as far as I’m concerned, anybody who sounds English with great cheekbones can probably pull it off.”
Giaman went on to discuss his comments getting taken out of context, adding:
“Everything you’ve read since (Like this) just stems from people copying the Radio Times Article and headline, reading far too much into it, or just flat-out lying, I’m afraid.”
What do you think about the rumor? Would you like it if Tom Hiddleston did in fact end up getting the part? Who else would you like to see in the role of Morpheus? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section at the bottom of the page.
