Tonight is an emotional night for fans of Tracy Morgan. The 30 Rock star was critically injured last year when a Wal-Mart truck driver crashed into his limo bus, killing his friend James “Jimmy Mack” McNair. Now, Morgan is getting back on his feet and return to Rockefeller Center to host the all new episode of Saturday Night Live. Check the report below for a look at Morgan’s gig and his thoughts on returning to comedy.
Earlier in the year, Tracy Morgan spoke to Matt Lauer about his eventual return to comedy following his tragic crash:
"I wonder how I'm gonna be funny again. Remembering my identity, what do I do?"
Morgan went on to add that despite not being ready at the time, he couldn’t wait to get back to comedy:
"I can't wait to make them laugh again."
During the interview, Morgan also detailed the emotional toll of the accident, telling Lauer:
"I've been down. I have my family, my wife Meghan, We are about to be married, and my daughter & my son, So they keep my spirits up," Morgan said speaking about the support he has received. “Tina Fey and all these people call me helped me get my spirits up,” Morgan added.
Morgan’s friend and mentor James “Jimmy Mack” McNair tragically passed away in the crash. Morgan also spoke up about losing McNair, adding:
“I mean the case is settled but the pain is going to always be there for Jimmy Mack. He was a close friend of mine, a comrade in comedy. He was a loving man, and he was a warm man.He was a good man. It's just hard for me to see that he's gone."
