The Los Angeles Dodgers will host the New York Mets tonight in Game 1 of their NLDS series. What is a reasonable final score prediction for this game?
Clayton Kershaw will face off against Jacob deGrom tonight in the first game of the series in a highly anticipated pitching matchup. Obviously the advantage goes to Kershaw because of the experience that he has, but deGrom could just as easily come away with a complete game shutout if he doesn't let his nerves get to him.
New York fought hard despite some adversity throughout the season and ended up winning the NL East fairly convincingly. They have put together a solid lineup, although there have been some consistency issues throughout the season. Much like the Dodgers, however, they relied on their pitching to get them to this point.
Los Angeles doesn't have the most high-powered offense, but they have enough game changers who can put up numbers with one swing of the bat. They also have some speed that they can work the base paths with. There likely won't be too many runs scored this evening with these two pitchers going at each other and that could be the case for the entire series.
If the Mets are going to come away with a win over Kershaw, they will need to capitalize on the one or two mistakes that he does make throughout the game. Yoenis Cespedes and the other power hitters for the Mets have to be ready to hit a home run at any given moment in order to make the big play that they need to win.
deGrom is going to make a few more mistakes than Kershaw will and Adrian Gonzalez and Joc Pederson will be looking to take advantage of each and every one of them.
Obviously the matchup seems to favor the Dodgers this evening and they are the best bet to pull off a Game 1 victory. New York could shock us and win Game 1, but the Dodgers should be able to defend their home field this evening.
