New York Mets Fans Have Impressed Hall of Fame Manager Tony La Russa

The New York Mets are set to begin their MLB postseason. Hall of Famer Tony La Russa has been impressed by the teams fan base, which says a lot about them.

La Russa was a huge part of building the St. Louis Cardinals' recent dynasty and he is now involved with the MLB front office. He has been taking more trips to New York and he talked about his impression of the Mets' fan base in a recent interview. If you are a Mets' fan, this statement from La Russa should make you proud to be a fan.

"Working for MLB and being in New York more than I ever was, I really came to appreciate the loyalty of the Mets fans," La Russa said. "There's a real hard core of support there. They were not happy. But the great, great majority I was around, they never deserted them. ... The fans are getting their due, individuals in the organization like Sandy (Alderson), the manager and coaches. It's a great, great, story, man. We'll see what happens in October."

New York was able to finish the 2015 MLB season with an impressive 90-72 record. They were one of the more intriguing teams to follow all year long and never gave in when they hit rough patches along the way.

Looking ahead at their postseason matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Mets are going to have a very tough job coming away with a series win and moving on. The Dodgers have an impressive rotation and their offense has been solid all year long. New York has a very good rotation themselves, but they certainly are the underdogs against Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke.

That being said, the atmosphere in New York when the Mets take the field in the postseason is going to be electric. Fans have been waiting for a long time for the Mets to get back to relevance. This is their year and you better believe that the fans will be out and loud when the Mets come back home.

La Russa is one of the most respected names in baseball right now and this statement says a lot about the Mets and their fans.

It will be interesting to see how the postseason goes for the Mets, but they certainly have had a huge season no matter what happens against the Dodgers. This is the type of building year that they needed and now there is nowhere to go but up.

New York fans should be proud of their team and they must turn out both in Los Angeles and at home to root for their team.
