NBC ‘Blacklist’ Season 3: Boss Talks Red James Spader & Liz Megan Boone Spoilers

Major Spoiler Alert: The Blacklist is back. The hit NBC darkhorse drama, starring James Spader (Red Reddington) and Megan Boone (Liz Keen), is heading into it’s third season and everything has changed. Well almost everything. This year, Keen finds herself atop the F.B.I.’s most wanted list, after being framed for murder at the end of Season 2. Recently, the show’s boss opened up about how the plot twist will stay connected to overall mythology of the series.

The official plot synopsis for the Season 3 premiere episode of The Blacklist, titled “The Troll Farmer,” reads:

“The FBI hunts for Liz for the murder of an attorney general in the Season 3 premiere. Also: Red and Liz try to flee the city with help from a Blacklister called the Troll Farmer; and Dembe is put in a perilous situation.”

This season Liz undergoes a sea change of sorts, shifting from F.B.I. agent to fugitive. Throughout the process, Liz changes her identity and even the color of her hair. However, amidst all these changes, the heart of the show will still be the same. Blacklist executive producer Jon Bokenkamp recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about how the show is stay connected to the mythology that has been building over the past two seasons:

“What we hit on in the story is that by virtue of her being on the run and having to change her look, she ends up realizing that she may look like her mother. It felt like a really nice, organic way to take the on-the-run story of two fugitives and yet tie it back into the mythology of who Liz is, who Red is, what their relationship is and to lean into the bigger question of identity.”

Are you excited to see an all new side of Liz? How long do you think she will stay on the run? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section at the bottom of the page.

Be sure to tune into the all new episode of The Blacklist, this Thursday at 9:00 p.m. eastern on NBC.
