'Batman v Superman' is 'Man of Steel 2' According to Zack Snyder

For weeks we have heard about whether or not we would see a Man of Steel sequel. With Zack Snyder stating vehemently that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is NOT Man of Steel 2, rumors have been swirling about Frank Miller and a number of other high-profile directors taking the helm with the project. Now, a recent statement by Snyder may contradict his previous stance on the film.

Sitting down with Jam Canoe, Zack Snyder goes back on his previous statements, saying that Batman v Superman is practically Man of Steel 2:

"I think in a way Batman v Superman is Man of Steel 2. Justice League is kind of the transcendent, knights-of-the-round-table of the story. It'd be interesting to think about what a standalone Superman movie might be."

There has not been a date announce for a sequel to Man of Steel and Warner Bros. has all of their DC films scheduled out through 2020. The question arises then, are we going to get a Man of Steel sequel? The trailers of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice suggest that the events of the film happen immediately after MOS. Superman's role in the film will be large, but is this a true sequel?

I don't think so. With all of the characters that Snyder needs to introduce us to, including reintroducing us to Batman, there doesn't appear to be enough time to make this a MOS sequel. The pieces of this film are in constant flux, with recent reports indicating that more Batman was injected into the film. The Justice League films seem to be the only thing on Warner's mind at the moment.

Henry Cavill has also recently stated that this film is not a MOS sequel:

"As far as the individual character is concerned, this is not a Superman sequel, There's plenty of time for individual Superman sequels."

Snyder also commented on his plans for The Justice League:

We really have to figure out the why of them. And I think that we have. That's the one thing that's cool to me about Batman v Superman, it's all about the mythology of these two massive icons. And I think that's compelling.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
