Davante Adams is going to see a huge role for the Green Bay Packers this season, but what can people expect his fantasy football Week 1 projection to be? After seeing Jordy Nelson go down for the season with a torn ACL, the Packers knew that their second-year receiver would need to step up in a huge way. Green Bay needs Adams to have a huge and consistent game each and every week, which all starts in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears.
Last season as a rookie, Adams ended up catching 38 passes for 446 yards and three touchdowns. He picked it up even more in the postseason for Green Bay with eight catches for 124 yards and a touchdown, including a 46-yard touchdown catch against the Dallas Cowboys in the division round of the playoffs.
At just 22 years old, asking Adams to step up into the number two receiver role on a Super Bowl contending team is a very difficult position to put a young player in.
This week against the Bears, Adams is going to disappoint every single owner that passed up on him in the draft. Chicago's defensive secondary is not going to be able to withstand the onslaught that Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay passing offense will bring to them. Adams may not be viewed as a fantasy star yet, but he will be following his first game in his new role.
Randall Cobb is going to be the number one receiver in Green Bay and James Jones was signed to be the third target. That leaves Adams all alone as the number two receiver and he earned Rodgers' trust last season with his strong and consistent play.
So to answer the question of what to expect from him against the Bears this week, it's time to make a prediction.
Expect Adams to come through with around seven receptions for 85 yards and at least one touchdown. There is a good chance that his numbers will be bigger than that, but they certainly won't be less. Adams is going to be one of the biggest steals in anyone's draft and he will start his year off in impressive fashion against the Bears.
