Andre Johnson was signed by the Indianapolis Colts in free agency this past offseason and he is going to be a huge factor for his new team in Week 1. He has been one of the most dominant wide receivers in the NFL throughout his career, but has never had a star quarterback throwing him the football. Andrew Luck was the main reason he signed with the Colts and it will be interesting to see what kind of numbers Johnson puts up.
Indianapolis will take on the Buffalo Bills in Week 1 and Johnson will be asked to play a huge role alongside of T.Y. Hilton. Buffalo has one of the league's best defenses, but there aren't many secondaries that can lock down both Hilton and Johnson.
Many thought that Johnson was slowing down last season and the Houston Texans obviously didn't feel like he had a lot left to offer him. Despite those beliefs, Johnson was still able to catch 85 passes for 936 yards and three touchdowns. His touchdown numbers were low, but that will happen when Ryan Fitzpatrick is under center.
At 34 years old, it will be interesting to see what is left in the tank with the chip that he has on his shoulder.
There aren't many defensive backs who are capable of locking down Johnson. Standing in at 6-foot-3 and 229 pounds, he is one of the more athletic and physical receivers in the NFL. Buffalo simply doesn't have anyone that can stand up to him and shut him down, which bodes well for Johnson's debut.
Rex Ryan will do everything in his power to keep Johnson from being a big piece of the Colts' offense, but Hilton won't allow him to give Johnson as much attention he would like.
Pep Hamilton hasn't had as many weapons to play around with as he has this season. Johnson gives him yet another option and will be a more physical receiver than Luck has ever had to throw to. That is a scary thought for any opposing defense that will go up against the Colts this season and should help propel the Colts.
Expect to see the Colts use Johnson early and often throughout their Week 1 matchup against the Bills. He may not be the superstar that he once was, but he still possesses the tools to dominate despite losing some of the speed and quickness that he once had.
Ryan Grigson signed Johnson to be part of what can take them to the next step in the AFC, which would be a Super Bowl appearance.
Don't be surprised if Johnson comes out in Week 1 with a huge performance and shows exactly why he was such a big signing for the Colts. They were the NFL's best passing offense last year and have a very good chance to make it two years in a row of being the top aerial attack.
