It is an exciting time for Transformers fans. Not only is the film franchise gearing up for for the fifth installment of series, but writers are also working on building an extended universe. There is also something for fans of the classic G1 era of Transformers. The release date for the all new action packed PS4, and Xbox One game, Transformers: Devastation, is almost here and there is an all new playable character trailer to gawk at in the meantime. Check the report below for an update about Transformers 5 as well as a look at the all new game.
Earlier in the year, Mark Wahlberg opened up to Collider, about returning for Transformers 5, and if he knew when filming would begin:
“I don’t. Just that Akiva [Goldsman] and those guys are starting to write and break stories, and stuff like that. But [Michael] Bay is in Malta shooting Benghazi, and I’m in New Orleans shooting Deepwater. We’ll get together when he gets back.”
It was later confirmed that Michael Bay is indeed returning for the fifth film.
Wahlberg might not be the only fleshling to head up a Transformers film. Akiva Goldsman has assembled a super table of writers, including but not limited to, Robert Kirkman (Walking Dead), Jeff Pinkner (Amazing Spider-Man), Zak Penn (Avengers) and Art Marcum & Matt Holloway (Iron Man).
Recently, Goldsman spoke to Deadline about Transformers writers circle:
“There is such reciprocity between TV and movies now, that we’re borrowing this from TV. I got a taste of this from JJ Abrams when I came in to write an episode of Fringe, and then Jeff Pinkner let me hang around for four years like the drunk uncle. The whole process of the story room was really delightful, and we are seeing it more in movies as this moves toward serialized storytelling.
“There are good rooms around town, including the Monsters Room at Universal, the Star Wars room, and of course, at Marvel. We’re trying to beg, borrow and steal from the best of them, and gathered a group of folks interested in developing and broadening this franchise. There is a central corridor of movies that has been proceeding quite well, but our challenge will be to answer, where do we go from here?”
Platinum Games and Activision are gearing up to release the all new game, Transformers: Devastation on Oct 6, 2015. The game will be available for all the major platforms, Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and PS4.
The all new game will feature several Transformers from the Transformers Generations line, with a heavy emphasis on the G1 era. However, alternate character skins will be available. The game also stars original Optimus Prime voice actor Peter Cullen.
