It would seem that as opposed to hating the supermarket tabloids' obsession with reporting that her marriage to Portia de Rossi is perpetually near divorce, Ellen DeGeneres actually loves the attention. According to the latest gossip news updates, the daytime talk show host is actually flattered that a lesbian couple is getting every bit as much coverage as famed heterosexuals like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Ellen admitted in a recent interview on Howard Stern's Sirius radio show, however, that she was definitely less than impressed with Caitlyn Jenner's admitting that she was still an old fashion conservative that didn't understand gay marriage, despite her being a transgender reality TV star.
While one might think that Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi absolutely loath the tabloids' constant refrain that their marriage in moments away from implosion, the Hollywood hot couple actually relish the attention.
In an interview with Howard Stern this week, Ellen explains that she and Portia were actually offended during the brief period that the tabloids seemed uninterested in the breakup (via HitFix):
"We're kind of flattered. Because for a while no one cared about us.
"And we thought 'oh, lesbians aren't worthy of tabloid stories.'
"So now we're kind of flattered that they even care about us."
Ellen seemed to be less than thrilled with Caitlyn Jenner's position on gay marriage following their interview for her talk show.
During their recent chat on her tald show, the former Olympian explained to Ellen that while she still doesn't really understand why gay people feel the need to call their legal unions a "marriage", she has finally come to the enlightened political position that it would be inappropriate to try to stop them from being able to do so (via Entertainment Weekly):
"I'm a traditionalist...I'm older than most people in the audience. I kind of like tradition, and it's always been a man and a woman. I'm thinking, 'I don't quite get it.'
"I think, like a lot of people on this issue, I have really changed my thinking here to, 'I don't ever want to stand in front of anybody's happiness.'
"That's not my job, okay? If that word -- 'marriage' -- is really, really that important to you, I can go with it."
DeGeneres told Stern that given Caitlyn's recent transgender transformation, she was confused as she was troubled by Jenner still not "understanding" why equal rights for all under the law is so important (via Mediaite):
"She still has a judgement about gay marriage.
"And I said, 'You're wanting people to understand and accept you -- this is like, really confusing to people -- and you still have a judgement about gay people and marriage.
"She goes, 'Well if the word marriage is that important.' It is. That's the word. We want the same thing."
What do you think about Caitlyn Jenner not understanding gay marriage?
Is Ellen right to be more than a little shocked by the transgender reality star's right-wing politics?
Or, does Jenner's paradoxical stance just go to prove that transgender people don't necessarily conform to any one stereotype?
