Salman Khan can't sing to save his life. He even admitted as much but that hasn't hurt sales or his popularity, for that matter. It may sound like an odd thing to admit, given that he is an actor in Bollywood films, the Mecca of musicals. Khan doesn't care, however. He is doing it for fun and realizes his limitations. Yet, in spite of all this, he still manages to crank out hits such as the recent hit "Main Hoon Her," which is off his newest produced film, Kick.
As for the fans, they don't seem to mind and Salman Khan still sells plenty of records. Such is life for a Khan these days. Everything he does seems to turn to gold.
It could be said Khan's singing is a bit of an exploration of sorts. These observations come from India Times, "Salman also noted that it was the urge to relate with the song, character and film that made him turn into a singer." Khan would also, later in the article, articulate his point of view, "I'm singing for fun and I can't sing to save my life. If you ask me to sing the song right now, I will not be able to do that. It doesn't sound the same, but when I'm in studio, when they (the composers) sing every line in front of me, I can mimic that and I can sing it."
The thing to keep in mind about Khan is that he will not put anything that isn't up to his standards. Credit should be given because he will work tirelessly to get it right. However, like everyone, he has a few tricks up his sleeve that help get him motivated and in the mood.
For "Main Hoon Hero," the title track on the upcoming film Kick, Khan intrigued everyone when, to get in the mood for such a romantic song, he said he concentrated on a mystery woman. "What's her name... I know you know her name... I just concentrated on her and that's it. So, that feeling automatically came." He didn't mention the identity of the "her", further intriguing everyone. Khan may not be much of a singer, by his own admission, but he sure has everyone's attention.
