The Dallas Cowboys made the move to acquire running back Christine Michael from the Seattle Seahawks, which will end up being a huge move. Jerry Jones knew that he needed to address the running back position and there is a good chance that Michael could compete for a good number of carries with Joseph Randle and Darren McFadden.
Michael didn't see the field much during his two seasons in Seattle, but he still received a few carries. He ended up totaling 254 yards and no touchdowns on 52 carries. Those numbers certainly aren't terribly impressive, but they do round out to being a solid 4.9 yards per carry in the limited time that he saw.
It will be interesting to see how he works out in Dallas, but he is a huge pickup to say the very least.
Joseph Randle and Darren McFadden are currently the top two running backs in Dallas, but that could change very quickly. Michael has the size and speed to become an every down running back in the NFL and he was able to sit back and learn from Marshawn Lynch in Seattle.
That definitely isn't saying that he will become anything close to as good as Lynch is, but it certainly helps to learn the game from one of the best. Michael is without question capable of developing into a starter that can help replace the production that DeMarco Murray gave them last season. Winning the starting job won't be easy for Michael, but there is no doubt that he has plenty of potential long-term for the Cowboys.
At 24 years old, Michael is just about to break into his physical prime. He will do so with the Cowboys and they have control of him through the end of next season.
Acquiring Michael and bringing him to Texas is somewhat of a homecoming for the talented running back. He played his college football at Texas A&M and was an absolute superstar. Perhaps he will feel at home with the Cowboys back in the state where he already has made a name for himself.
Dallas was interested in acquiring quite a few different running backs before deciding that Michael was the right one for them. The fact that they were so aggressive in bringing another player in at the position shows that there is a good chance that Michael will have a good chance to earn some playing time.
Expect to hear plenty about Michael over the next couple weeks as he tries to beat out McFadden and Randle for playing time. He certainly has the potential to break out and have a huge season in 2015, but it will all come down to whether or not he can prove himself to the Cowboys' coaching staff.
