While Jared Leto might be in the news right now for some fisticuffs that went down at LAX, word has it Suicide Squad's new Joker has bigger problems to worry about outside of who punched who and the airport. According to the latest gossip news updates, the Dallas Buyer's Club Oscar winner is on target to sink at least more $5 million renovating his new house in the Hollywood Hills, and the money pit is reportedly starting to take a depressing toll on the 30 Seconds to Mars rocker's net worth.
When Jared Leto first bought a sprawling former military compound in L.A.'s Laurel Canyon for a reported $5 million shortly after his Dallas Buyer's Club Oscar win, it seemed like the part-time popstar had bought his dream home at a solid price, but with the summer already drawing to an end, word has it the cost of renovating the new home has him lying awake at night.
One source in the latest August 31, issue of Star magazine, explains that it's the very size of the 50,000 square feet multilevel warehouse-like property that has the budget ballooning uncontrollably:
"The unusual layout makes it a difficult and expensive property to renovate...And the price just keep climbing! By the time he's done, the cost will have doubled at the very least.
"What he wants done is going to take years.
"It hasn't turned out to be the fun project he thought it would be."
Whether Jared's dream home is really costing him millions or not, it hasn't seemed to dampen the spirits of his Suicide Squad alter ego, The Joker.
Finding himself a little late to Leto's bizarre gift getting party, Jay Hernandez, who plays Chato Santana/El Diablo in David Ayer's new film, recently received a package from his costar's character, entailing a wicker basket filled with a small red box, a newspaper wrapped knickknack and a hand-scrawled envelope, which Hernandez proudly displayed on Instagram.
Jared most shocking Suicide Squad gift so far has to be the live rat he sent to Margot Robbie, who play his girlfriend, Harley Quinn, in the new movie -- perhaps a sign that the pricey renovations really are starting to get to him.
