Most kids don’t like going to the dentist, and for good reason. It is scary as hell having a someone poke and prod the inside of your mouth with tiny hooks and drills. Now, imagine just how scary it would be if instead of a toy treasure chest in the office, there was the severed and stuffed head of a beloved African Lion, complete with beeping scientific research color around its neck. Minn Dentist Walter James Palmer earned international infamy and the wrath of Jimmy Kimmel, when he slaughtered..sorry “hunted” Cecil the Lion outside of an Zimbabwe preserve. Now, the man who put Orin Scrivello to shame, has issued a statement about his shameful act.
After being outed as the man who killed Cecil the Lion, Walter James Palmer has released a statement as CBS News reports:
"I had no idea that the lion I took was a known, local favorite, was collared and part of a study until the end of the hunt. I relied on the expertise of my local professional guides to ensure a legal hunt. I deeply regret that my pursuit of an activity I love and practice responsibly and legally resulted in the taking of this lion."
However, not everyone ( or anyone really) is jumping to forgive Palmer. Recently, Jimmy Kimmel railed against the poacher in his opening monologue, saying:
"Is it that difficult for you to get an erection? That you need to kill things that are stronger than you?"
Kimmel also broke down for a brief moment when he was instructing people to do some good and donate to the Wildlife Conservation Research Unit at Oxford.
