The ESPYs, the awards annual awards show that does for the sports world that the Oscars do for the film world, happened this past Wednesday in Los Angeles. UFC champion Ronda Rousey was the toast of the 2015 event. Wearing a dress and looking very feminine, Rousey not only beat Serena Williams out for Female Athlete of the Year and KO'ed Floyd Mayweather for Fighter of the Year, along the way, she managed to rip Mayweather a new one.
Rousey could, no doubt, put a serious hurting on most everyone at the event but the champ can by a lady and still punch your lights out. They aren't mutually exclusive. Accepting the award, she decided to illustrate the point when giving her acceptance speech.
"I wonder how Floyd feels being beat by a woman for once. I'd like to see you pretend to not know who I am now," Rousey said during the awards show's broadcast on ESPN, obviously directing her coments at Mayweather.
The boxer has a history of infamous domestic abuse incidents and according to ESPN, "Mayweather once said he didn't know who Rousey was, though she is one of the most famous fighters in the world."
Rousey wasn't done there. She also collected Best Female Athlete of the year as well, edging out easily the greatest female tennis player to play the game, Serena Williams. The owner of 21 career Grand Slam titles, Williams just needs to win the US Open, later in August, to complete the calendar year Grand Slam.
But this was Rousey's night. No stranger to picking up admirers wherever she goes, former boxing world champion Mike Tyson was also quick to jump on the Rousey express. In another article from ESPN, Mike Tyson assessed Rousey this way, "Ronda, she's a lady. Polite, kind, sweet and adorable," Tyson said. "But her whole barometer is, she's a killer. She has that killer aura, meaning anything is capable of happening. Whoa! That's exciting before the fight even starts. I think of myself when I watch her.."
