Hiromu Arakawa's 'Silver Spoon' Lands on Top 5 List of Untranslated Manga

Brace yourself, anime fans. It's been a big week for Fullmetal Alchemist, one of the most popular manga series on Earth. Not only can you watch the Eldric brothers Edward and Alphonse battle it out with Pokemon monsters, but creator Hiromu Arakawa also finds herself on a notable Top 5 list, coming in at the No. 2 slot of Anime News Network's "Five Amazing Untranslated Manga."

Even though the series wrapped over five years ago, it is still generating buzz. This fits well with creator Hiromu Arakawa who has proved time and time again that she can accomplish the almost impossible. Now, that's just what the 42-year-old artist has done again, as her popular anime Silver Spoon just landed on Anime News Network's list of "Top 5 Untranslated Mangas".

Given the gigantic success Fullmetal Alchemist experienced in the States, it's hard to believe that this film has not yet been translated for American audiences. However, Anime News Network reports that it could have something to do with how cute the film is: "It's weird that this hasn't been published in the U.S. yet, right? Hiromu Arakawa's previous manga, Fullmetal Alchemist, was a big hit over here, and the Silver Spoon anime already has a following. Completely unlike the darker Fullmetal Alchemist, it's a cute manga that finds a new angle on the well-worn high school comedy tropes."

Fear not, fans of Fullmetal. You have some exciting new content to look forward too as well. That is, if you haven't already seen YouTube user azuresakuga's fan-made videos that pit Fullmetal Alchemist characters against other popular anime characters, most notably Pikachu and his Pokemon comrades.

This was a huge undertaking for Azure, but after a year of working on the project, he has finally completed the popular YouTube vids (via Anime News Network): "The project I've spent an entire year on is finally complete. I started on March 13, 2014 when the YouTube drawing contest was announced. Myself and all other contributors to this are not professionals in any way, we're just amateurs. Even though we had no idea what we were doing at times, we somehow finally managed to complete it."

What do you think about the latest reports? Are you surprised that Silver Spoon hasn't been translated for America? Who do you think would win in a fight between Pokemon and Fullmetal Alchemist?
