Joyce DiDonato, a household name for opera fans, has announced that her latest album release, Joyce & Tony - Live at the Wigmore Hall, will be available for sale worldwide on August 28. Recently, the singer shared with her fans the cover art for the album.
The release comes on the Warner Classics/Erato label and is a 2-disc set. It features a live recording of Joyce's recital with Sir Antonio Pappano at Wigmore Hall, opening for the venue's 2014-15 season. On the album are highlights of music from a range of artists and composers, including songs from the Baroque era by Haydn and Rossini to contemporary pieces from Kern and Bolcom.
Rupert Christiansen at The Telegraph reported on the second night of the performance:
"Is there no stopping her? Fresh from her triumph at the Royal Opera House last summer as Donizetti's Maria Stuarda, the dazzling Irish American mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato returns to London to open the Wigmore Hall's 2014-15 season with two recitals accompanied by Antonio Pappano...They were queuing round the block for the second of her Wigmore dates, and rightly so - there's no female singer around today who can match her immediate warmth of personality, depth of musicality, beauty of tone and superlative technique."
George Hall at The Guardian said of the performance:
"The opening night of the Wigmore season brought together two leading peformers in a programme that suited them both perfectly. It was comprised of an almost entirely Italian first half, followed by a second consisting of American classics. Expert in her textual definition in both languages, mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato was persuasively communicative in music ranging from Haydn to Jerome Kern."
But it's no surprise that DiDonato delivered a most pristine performance. Even if it's the national anthem at the World Series, Joyce is a versatile performer and her new album should provide a listening experience second only to the live show.
For now, keep up with her below and preorder the album on Amazon here.
