The most popular celebrity on Instagram is a member of a Korean boy band. Smart money would probably say it's not T.O.P of Big Bang. Ultra possessive of his social media account, it's a wise idea to not mention it whatsoever. Just trust me, don't go there. Nor is it the Korean Johnny Depp, G- Dragon. He uses Instagram but is so cool that you forget he's actually doing something so mundane as living life. He's G-Dragon, end of discussion. Instead, it's EXO's Chanyeol that came out on top. His account received over 97 million replies and likes. That means the account came out ahead of other K-Pop stars Shun of EXO, G-Dragon of Big Bang, Super Junior Heechul, and 4Minute's HyunA, were all next, according to K-PopStarz.
Combined, the five accounts received over 2 billion replies and 1.75 LOLs, from over 150 million followers. According to Instagram, the K-Pop stars had the largest number of followers from Indonesia, Thailand and the US. Amazingly, T.O.P acquired the most followers in the shortest amount of time. According to KoreaObserver, the ones with the most followers were G- Dragon 4.5 Million, Girls' Generation's Taeyeon (4.1 million) and four EXO members -- Chanyeol (4.1 million), Sehun (3.8 million), Baekhyun (3.5 million) and Tao (3.3 million) -- were also among the stars with more than 3 million followers.
Social media has definitely been a revelation for the world of K-Pop and could be pointed to as a big reason why the industry as a whole has benefitted greatly from avenues such as Twitter and Instagram. The stars can connect to the fans directly and not worry about some big conglomerate to promote them and do it badly. It is no coincidence that bands like Big Bang are doing so well in a time when record sales are slumping..
