'Wayward Pines' Mid-Season Spoilers: Show Boss Talks “Truth” Reveal & First Generation

Major Wayward Pines Episode 5 Spoilers: The truth is out about Wayward Pines. The hit Fox miniseries revealed a major development in the mid-season finale (there is a one week hiatus before episode 6). If you didn’t watch than you might want to run to Fox On Demand or Hulu Plus now because this is your final spoiler warning. In episode 5 we learned that Wayward Pines actually takes place in 4028. Ben (Charlie Tahan, Young Scarecrow in Gotham) was initiated into “the First Generation,” a group of kids who are taught the real truth that the town is really an ark, and that they are the last remaining humans on earth. Now, the show’s boss Chad Hodge is opening up about just why the kids know the truth and the adults are kept in the dark.

Recently, Wayward Pines executive producer Chad Hodge spoke to TVLine about the epic mid-season episode, and the reasons behind educating the First Generation with the real truth:

“When you were in fourth grade and your teacher told you about the solar system and all the planets out there and the galaxies, as a kid, you accept that and you understand it and you learn it. But if you had never learned that and you are 35 or 40 years old and someone tells you. ‘Oh, by the way, did you know that there are nine planets out there and galaxies and stars?’ You'd be like, ‘Screw you. That's complete bullsh**.’ As an adult, your mind completely will shut off to things like that. That sounds insane, but a younger person can accept that truth.”
Hodge went on to explain the adult's role in Wayward Pines:

“So, the adults are really here to have children and to take care of this young first generation until they are ready to take over the town because the adults just simply can't handle the truth, which is something that Episode 6 is really about.”
