Texas Pool Cop Resigns: Lawyer Claims Suicide Call Took “Emotional Toll” After ‘Daily Show’ Jon Stewart Shaming

The infamous McKinney, Texas police officer who pulled a gun on unarmed teens, has resigned. A statement from his lawyer is claiming that two suicide calls earlier in the day, took an “emotional toll” on him, in an effort to defend his action. Check the report below to read the statement and watch Jon Stewart’s shaming of the officer on The Daily Show.

Earlier in the week, a shocking video was released showing McKinney, Texas officer Eric Casebolt, violently throwing a 14-year-old girl to the ground and pulling a gun on unarmed teens who were trying to come to her aid.

Jon Stewart commented on the video on Monday night’s episode of The Daily Show, calling Casebolt an “a**hole.”

"In that clip he's telling her to get her a** on the ground, and I believe it is literally on the ground. Not only is he being an a**hole, he's redundant."

Casebolt has since resigned from the force.

The attorney for now former Officer Casebolt, Jane Bishkin released a statement about the incident, citing the “emotional toll: that his response to two suicide calls earlier day had on him (via CNN):

"The video that everyone has seen only depicts a small part of Eric's actions that day...With all that happened that day, he allowed his emotions to get the better of him. Eric regrets that his conduct portrayed him and his department in a negative light. He never intended to mistreat anyone, but was only reacting to a situation and the challenges it presented. He apologizes to all who are offended. That day was not representative of the 10-year service to the community of McKinney, and it is his hope that by his resignation the community may start to heal."
