Jon Bernthal is returning from the dead to star in yet another comic book series. The actor, best known for his role as Shane in AMC’s The Walking Dead, is joining the Marvel Universe. It was recently revealed that Bernthal has been cast as The Punisher Frank Castle in the upcoming second season of the renewed Netflix hit, Daredevil.
You knew him and loved to hate him as Shane, the psychotic almost-rapist on AMC’s The Walking Dead. Now, Jon Bernthal is finding new life as The Punisher in Marvel’s Daredevil on Netflix.
Jeph Loeb, Marvel Studio’s Head of Television spoke about Jon Bernthal’s casting in press statement found on Marvel.com, reading:
“Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences. Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”
The Punisher is not the only change coming to Season 2. Executive Producer Steven S. DeKnight is leaving the series and will be replaced by new showrunners Doug Petrie (American Horror Story) and Marco Ramirez (Sons of Anarchy).
Marvel.com, also features a press statement rom DeKnight about his departure:
“While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season. I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch. They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can't wait to see what they do with the show moving forward."
