‘Avengers’ Joss Whedon Fought Marvel To Make ‘Daredevil’ Movie Instead of Netflix TV Show

Marvel’s Daredevil TV/Netflix series is one the best parts of the MCU, putting Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to shame. However, if Joss Whedon (Buffy/ Avengers) had his way, it never would have happened. Recently, Whedon revealed that he fought with Marvel to have Daredevil made into a movie.

Back in April Joss Whedon opened up to IGN about his plans for a Daredevil:

“I fought for Daredevil to be a film instead of a TV show. Then under the auspices of Drew Goddard and Steve DeKnight… I’m dying to see the show but they released it just as I started the press tour!"

Whedon went on to to explain just why he thought Daredevil would make a better film:

“I like him because he’s basically Marvel’s Batman, thanks to Frank Miller basically. So for me I didn’t think they’d be able to sustain that sort of mood on TV but TV has changed so much. It’s come up so much that I think it might just be the right place.”

Boy was Joss Whedon wrong and Daredevil. It is a good thing that he didn’t get his way, or else we might not have this amazing series.

It is not hard to understand Joss Whedon’s hesitance, he has been burned TV in recent years. His beloved Sci-Fi series Firefly was canceled by Fox after one season, and was later resurrected as a movie.

Daredevil Season 1 is currently streaming on Netflix, and the series has officially been renewed for a second season.
