If you went to Avengers 2: Age of Ultron hoping to see Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, than you were sadly out of luck. The Thor villain's cameo scene was cut from the final version of the film. This is another blow to fans who were already upset with director Joss Whedon for seemingly blasting the actor in favor of James Spader’s Ultron.
Earlier in the year, Idris Elba let it slip that him and Tom Hiddleston filmed a cameo for Avengers 2: Age of Ultron. This was music to the ears of Loki’s loyal army of fans. So naturally fans got a little upset when they stormed the midnight showings (or read the spoilers online) and found out that their beloved king was not in the final cut of the film. Now, Joss Whedon is opening up about Hiddleston’s absence from the film, telling MTV:
“We did shoot something, but it didn’t play. The movie has so much. It’s so filled. We didn’t want it to feel overstuffed. I really wanted to have Loki in it, but I understood the decision that there were now too many voices in the chorus...At some point the embarrassment of riches is actually embarrassing.”
Last year while singing the praise the of James Spader, Joss Whedon seemingly dissed Tom Hiddleston, telling Empire :
"I'm having a blast with Ultron. He's not a creature of logic--he's a robot who's genuinely disturbed. We're finding out what makes him menacing and at the same time endearing and funny and strange and unexpected, and everything a robot never is...I fiercely dislike the idea of just throwing in more people for the sake of doing that. But last time I had all of Earth's Mightiest Heroes versus one British character actor, and I needed more conflict."
