Why is Deepika Padukone Hated and Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif Not?

Deepika Padukone isn't very well liked. So much so, there is an entire Facebook page entitled "We Hate Deepika." The page basically documents and shares all stories on the internet that bash Deepika. Largely culled from tabloid-esque sources, they, of course, cast the actress in a very unflattering light. The sources should be held with the same regard that people in this country hold The National Enquirer. So, why exactly the hatred? What has Deepika done that everyone seems to dislike her so much, when fans seem?

I noticed this trend when looking at comments left on articles I had written about Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor's impending marriage. I, for the most part, never pay that much attention to the gossip side. I don't really care about actors and actresses private lives. So, I was a little surprised there was a vehement dislike of Deepika. I was even accused of being a part of her PR. If that is the case, I need to ask for more money, because, if I am giving her press, she is not paying me for it . There is an article on Indiatimes.com that I found that casts Deepika in a whole new light.

In the Editor's Note of the article, we get a great thumbnail sketch of the actress. What must be remembered is that Deepika Padukone seems to be a strong self-assured woman. She is a, dare we say the dreaded F-word, feminist in a slowly changing but still very sexist country. The tabloid media is harsh in its portrayal of females. To make it worse, for Deepika at least, is the fact that she is civic minded. She believes in equality and is prepared to fight for it.

To quote from the Editor's Note -

"Meet her in person and you'll see someone with a heart of gold, a dark sense of humor but more importantly without one little bit of 'i'm a celebrity worship the ground i walk on' attitude. She's a celebrity while being the girl-next-door. And she's played both roles with the ease of buttering toast. She was depressed and she's been 'man' enough to admit it. Unlike the men of the industry, her admission didn't come just in time for a movie release or her TV debut. It was just pure, unadulterated her."

A lot of opinion about Deepika has sprung from her relationship with Bollywood heart throb Ranbir Kapoor. It was Kapoor's philandering that broke them up, yet she still holds a deep affection for him. So, why is Deepika labeled "a wh-re?"
