‘Avengers’ Hulk Mark Ruffalo Blasts ‘I Don’t Need Feminism’ Movement on Tumblr

There is a growing movement online of women against feminism. Women have been posting signs on social media, listing reasons why they “don’t need feminism.” However, not everyone feels this way. Recently, Avengers Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo posted a response to the movement on Tumblr, citing all the brave women who have paved the way for their freedom.

In a recent Youtube video for Rebel Media, Lauren Southern, explains why she doesn’t need feminism, claiming it is “not a synonym for equality” and that it is “unintentionally creating a world of reverse sexism.”

However, actor Mark Ruffalo is not so sure about the movement, Hulking out on Tumblr:

“You’re insulting every woman who was forcibly restrained in a jail cell with a feeding tube down her throat for your right to vote, less than 100 years ago.

“You’re degrading every woman who has accessed a rape crisis centre, which wouldn’t exist without the feminist movement.”

Ruffalo went on to close his post with a few biting remarks:

“In short, you know not what you speak of. You reap the rewards of these women’s sacrifices every day of your life. When you grin with your cutsey sign about how you’re not a feminist, you ignorantly spit on the sacred struggle of the past 200 years. You bite the hand that has fed you freedom, safety, and a voice. In short, kiss my a**, you ignorant little jerks.”

It should be noted that what Lauren Southern and some of the people in the “I don’t need feminism movement,” are referring to what is known as third wave feminism, where most of the hard won battles that Mark Ruffalo references in his post are what are considered first and second wave feminism.

What are your thoughts on the subject? Is Mark Ruffalo holding to an outdated meaning of feminism? Are the anti-feminist forgetting those who paved the way for women’s rights today? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section at the bottom of the page.
